3 live meetings
2 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Students will be expected to work on their routines between classes.Class Experience
Students will learn the basics of ventriloquism (and the importance of practicing in front of a mirror). They will give their puppet a name, a distinct voice, and a unique personality. They will also learn how to make a puppet seem to come alive through eye contact, proper mouth movement, and realistic interaction with the puppeteer. All this makes the ventriloquism more believable. Finally, they will learn to write their own routines based on the personalities of their puppets. As they perform for the group, I will show them ways to improve.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to have a ventriloquist mouth, says the easy alphabet, and then attempt the hard alphabet. They will learn to use context clues and repetition to help the audience understand better. Proper puppet manipulation will make the ventriloquism believable. Finally, they will write their own routines to entertain their friends and family.

Teacher expertise and credentials
California Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I was a professional clown for 15 years. In that time, I frequently used ventriloquism in my performances. I have also used it with puppets in children's church for many years. And at school, just for fun, when we are lined up for lunch, I will occasionally "do" ventriloquism with a student just opening his/her mouth as I put words in it!
