Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
Curriculum In this class we will focus on tracing and writing simple sentences. As well as concepts such as capitalization, punctuation and the use of prepositions. Various types of writing prompts are also provided. The first step in this writing class is knowing which writing level your child is in so I can make a specific learning plan for your child. Please look at the levels below. Writing Levels *Please let me know what level your child is on in advance. Level 1 Simple Sentences This level is for learners that are in the tracing stage of writing. Students will be reading, tracing, writing and unscrambling simple sentences, a natural progression from the study of individual sounds (phonics) and words (vocabulary). Level 2 Capital Letters This stage is for learners that can write a sentence but needs help in capitalizing words. I will introduce students to the use of capital letters at the start of sentences and for proper nouns. I will also provide practice in reading, printing and spelling. Level 4 Punctuation This stage is for learners that can write a sentence but need help in placing punctuation marks. I will introduce students to different punction marks. I will have learners match the punctuation with sentences which may be declarative, interrogative, imperative or exclamatory (though students are not asked to classify sentences or use those terms). Level 5 Prepositions This stage is for students that know how to write a sentence, use capital letters and use punctuation. However, these learners are not yet familiar with direction words. I will introduce learners to direction words time, location and spatial relationships, among other things. Level 6 Draw and Write At this stage learners have learned how to write sentences using punctuation and prepositions. Now learners will begin using their imagination to write about something they see. Level 7 Writing Prompts At this stage, learners will learn how to form their own stories by following steps, using their opinions and illustrating their own passages.
