In this superhero RPG, we'll create own original superheros (or supervillains) with unique names, abilities, and background stories, using the provided character sheet. Then, we'll embark upon imaginary adventures within a fantasy setting: fighting crime, solving mysteries, and building our reputation as the most famous hero (or infamous villain) in the city. The rules and gaming conventions are based on Dungeons & Dragons (the instructor is an experience Dungeon Master) with inspirations from superhero specific RPG games like Champions. For example, players who are savvy with the city's media and police will build their reputation, which gives in-game bonuses. This game is perfect for superhero/comic book fans and D&D players looking for a fun twist on the game, and it's okay if you've never played D&D or another RPG before! In addition to being thoroughly fun, RPGs like D&D teach a number of valuable skills: creative thinking, storytelling, problem solving, logic, arithmetic, leadership, teamwork, and public speaking. By the end of the class, the students will also have a sufficient background in RPGs that they can organize and Dungeon Master for their own adventures with friends and family. Finally, I recommend checking out my Teacher Profile, especially my Teaching Philosophy section, to make sure this is a fit for your student. See you in class!
