Class Experience

Parents please read the email I send you once your learner signs up for the class. There's important information that your learner must know and do before they can play their first game. Thank you.

Notice: This Dungeons and Dragons class uses the Roll20 website to play D&D. Roll20 is not compatible with phones, tablets or iPad so please ensure your learner has a laptop or desktop computer to use. Thank you.

Students who are new to Dungeons & Dragons will learn how to play D&D by playing the Dragon of Icespire Peak module using the free roll20.net website. I will post a link to the specific Roll20 game for each class. We will also use Zoom to interact with each other. I will be the Dungeon Master (the person who facilitates the game and ensures fair play.

Learners can expect challenging situations in every session that will push them to use the skills I mentioned above.

Students can jump into the adventure at anytime, therefore the following is a loose interpretation of how the sessions are organized. I will teach a little of each topic in every session as appropriate for the class.

We will cover adventuring and gear, combat and actions taken. How to interact with NPCs (non player characters). How to properly conduct adventuring, combat and how to properly interact as team. How teamwork to defeat a boss. Reading and understanding character stats and researching. Critical thinking in playing the game. With all subsequent sessions your student will have fun and learn/hone many life skills.

Students will build skills in the 3 pillars of Dungeons and Dragons; exploration, social interaction and combat.

Week 1 character creation and learn the basics of Dungeons and Dragons. This will also be our Session Zero where we go over D&D rules and my rules as a DM.
Week 2 character development through game play: exploration, social interaction and combat.
Week 3 role playing development. You don't always have to battle (social interaction)
Week 4 learning what the monsters are up to during combat. Learn how to determine their armor class and listen for subtle clues from me about their remaining hit points.
All other weeks will build upon the 3 pillars of D&D

Learning Goals

In this Dungeons and Dragons class students will learn team building, teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, research and math skills all while having fun using their imaginations.
