Class Experience

In this ongoing class, our community of learners will discuss executive function concepts and behaviors every week. We will discuss getting organized, large/small goals, regulating emotions, formulating ideas/passions, and how to get there. This is also a place where we can talk about roadblocks that can occur from either within or from outside that stop us from achieving our goals. Each week we will put our thinking caps on and critically think about the importance of having good executive function skills, and how they can positively benefit ourselves and our community. This class is limited to 7 learners to give each student an opportunity to engage. As with all the D.R.E.A. M. (Do Right Each Audacious Minute) classes critical thinking is a key element. Since this is learner-directed, please contact me directly to see exactly where we are at on any given week/topic, per section, as each section moves at its own pace depending on student needs.

Sample Topics:
Planning and Organization: Where do I start?
Task Initiation: How do I just get started?
Fear: How can we recognize it and what can we do about it
Time Management: How can we use time to become our best selves
The Art and Science of Discipline: What does our brain have to do with discipline?
Goals: How to set them, manage them and complete them.
Regulating our Emotions: The power of us!
Study Skills: Where do I even start?
Boundaries: What are they and how do we keep them?
Worry: Help! I’m caught in a cycle!
Relationships: How do we know if someone is our friend?
Communication: A forgotten skill
Persistence without Exception: How do we keep going when times get hard?
Chores: Can I get myself to do them automatically?
Grit: Do I have it?
Flexibility: I don't like it, now what?

I believe in creating a classroom environment that is flexible and driven by student suggestions and engagement. While I always have a lesson plan for each class, I can and do adjust my plans to best meet the needs of the students who join each week. I encourage a very interactive classroom where students are encouraged to engage.
