Class Experience

Discovering and drawing your own anime art style first means drawing from your favorite anime art styles! We will practice sketching different anime art and sharpen our artistic eyes. The teacher may use a digital drawing program or traditional pencil and paper during the club meeting. Learners are not required to use a digital drawing program. Learners may use any art medium they prefer (pencil, tablet, paint, etc). You will learn different techniques and skills and acquire a better understanding of many art styles from your favorite anime, manga, or game. You may already notice the slight or not so slight differences of how an anime art style can change from one episode to the next or from season to season. Anime art styles can also change drastically from your favorite manga to its anime adaptation. Anime art styles have changed throughout time over the past several decades and can be fun to draw!

Learners may make requests and add to the list as to what character they will like to practice drawing at the start of the club. Multiple requests made will be placed in random order using a teacher-created spin wheel. Each learner will have the opportunity to have their request granted when their turn comes so please be prepared with a character in mind! Each learner is allowed to make one request per club meeting. Requests must be appropriate and not depict any blood. One or two drawings may be completed during each class. It is optional to share our anime art during the club meeting or on the classroom page and discuss what anime we enjoy and why! See you there!

**It is advised that parents/guardians review any anime or manga before a learner is given permission to watch or read as each family is different in what they allow or not allow in their household.**

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Teacher Amber! I am passionate about teaching young learners ages 3-7 to read and write and will center my Outschool classes on penmanship and phonological awareness like alliteration, rhyming, and blending words. I have experienced first hand as a long term Kindergarten permanent substitute how my students were all at different levels of reading and writing. I always found time to sit down and help them improve their writing and fluency skills. I have earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, Teacher & Bilingual Education through the traditional teaching program from Texas A&M University from Kingsville, TX where I took courses on child development and the Foundations of Literacy Instruction. Through this program, I have been able to exchange ideas and teaching strategies with other teachers in the program and learn from others’ teaching philosophies while developing my own philosophy around progressivism.

I completed two semester long classroom observations for a kindergarten class and a 2nd grade class where I guided student-dictated reading prompts for students to write in their journals following a read aloud story. When I graduated, I received my Texas Educator Certificate in Core Subjects EC-6 in December 2017 allowing me to teach a variety of subjects to learners in early childhood through 6th grade. I hope I can transfer over to the Outschool online teaching platform the invaluable knowledge and skills I acquired over the years from my classroom experiences and education.

Something fun about me is that I love drawing! I remember when I was 9, I had uncovered the amazing world of anime and manga. It has opened my eyes to something new and exciting! My first anime I fell in love with was Inuyasha, followed by Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, and Cased Closed. I always drew in my sketchbook any opportunity I could get. I joined my art clubs in middle and high school. I picked up a few more mediums along the way like painting and clay sculpting. I want to teach art like "How To" Drawings and paintings. I have had years of practice drawing and sketching since my childhood because of my fascination with anime and manga. That fascination has never died! I will love to teach children of different age ranges 4-8 and 9-13 depending on the complexity of the drawings. I want to incorporate my love for drawing into my teaching style.
