Learners may need to complete their drawings at home. I know I always needed more time! Questions and critiques are welcome after class finishes through the Outschool messaging system. Optional: Learners are encouraged to practice applying what they learned to any drawing at home.Class Experience
****This class is for ages 8-10. Please look at my profile for this same class for ages 9-11, 11-16, and 16-18* Ready, set, sketch! Let's draw on every page of your sketchbook while learning different techniques and learning how to draw a variety of different things. *All levels are welcome* In this ongoing class, we will focus on a different technique or subject in each class. We will cover everything from nature to the human body. We will learn about proportions, anatomy, texture, shading, light and shadow, edges, details, highlights, gesture (expression), and more! Art, just like everything else, takes time and patience to learn. This class will not only teach students valuable techniques, but will also give learners the opportunity to practice applying what they learn. SCHEDULES Because some learners like to suggest topics, topics might change a week before the class! SCHEDULE *Learners are welcome to suggest topics. MONDAYS at 3:25pm Eastern May 8 - Teacups May 15 - Chickadee May 22 - Flowers TUESDAYS at 3:30pm Eastern April 18 - Flowers April 25 - Human Eye May 2 - Perspective FRIDAYS at 6:45pm Eastern April 21 - Chickadee April 28 - Textures May 5 - Tree Art is a bit of a mystery, and I want to give learners the tools to be able to figure out how to draw whatever they want. Each class is different and does not build on each other. I am looking forward to seeing you in my class!
Learning Goals
Students will learn different techniques such as proportions, anatomy, texture, shading, light and shadow, and line so that they will be able to use these tools to figure out how to draw independently at home.
Other Details
Supply List
- pencils - eraser - sharpener - paper/sketchbook OPTIONAL - pen eraser (anything similar to the Tombow Mono Zero Eraser) - kneaded eraser (strongly suggested) - any size sketchbook/paper (I personally like 8x10 or 9x12)
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I graduated from Grand Central Atelier in New York City where I was trained to draw and paint realistically in a traditional way. While I usually draw realistically, I also enjoy using this approach to draw in different styles. My goal is to teach children the tools of drawing and give them the opportunity to practice applying them so that they will be able to draw what they want independently.
