We will begin class by reading a book about monsters. Then, the students will brainstorm different ideas for what our monsters could look like. Is it big and round? skinny and tall? Monsters could have tentacles, scales, or horns. What are different ways we could draw legs or arms? After students have drawn their monsters, we will discuss where our monsters live and add their environment to the background of the drawing. We will end class with coloring our artwork, which may need to be finished outside of class. Throughout the class, each student will be asked to share about themselves and their drawing to ensure that they get plenty of interaction during the class. The students will be encouraged to make their drawing unique and personal to them, but will also be supported with directed drawings to help those students who needs help with executing their drawings or gaining ideas.
Learning Goals
Students will continue to develop skills in artistic expression, artistic decision making, fine motor skills, and composition layout.
