This class is designed for students who love to draw plants and colour, and I always encourage and welcome learners of all abilities and levels of experience to join my classes. I always like to start class off with some fun drawing warm-ups to get ourselves ready to draw and be creative! Next, we will go through each step to drawing Potted Flowers, including Geraniums, Petunias, and Hydrangeas! Students will be encouraged to share their progress throughout the class with myself and other classmates. When we are done drawing, there will be time to colour our flowers and chat with peers about our artwork. This class is fairly relaxed with lots of opportunity for social interaction. When I am teaching each step of the drawing, I move slowly and explain in detail what I am doing to ensure that no student gets left behind in the lesson. This class will be so much fun and students will learn some new skills along the way! Come join us to learn how to draw Potted Flowers!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Mekayla Dionne. I am a Toronto, Canada based Artist and Art Teacher! I teach drawing and painting classes for children aged 5-16. I teach a variety of mediums such as acrylic, watercolour, tempera, graphite, and more! I love to help students build their confidence in their art as well as in themselves.
I went to OCAD University and received a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), majoring in Drawing & Painting. I now have my own professional art practice and I frequently show my paintings in galleries.
My artistic passion is in creating large scale abstract paintings using dozens of layers to achieve a highly tactile surface, as well as create optical illusions. However, my foundation is in realism drawing. I spent years building the skill of drawing things as realistically as possible, including drawing flowing hair, water, and rocks, using shading techniques.
When I teach, my primary goal is to make sure everyone is having fun. Art can be frustrating at times, and a lot of practice goes into learning just one skill. I know how important it is to make it a fun experience for children so that they don't feel discouraged. After all, the best thing you can do is practice, practice, practice!
When I am not teaching or creating my own art, I love to swim at the beach, go on bike rides, and tend to my plants. I am super friendly so don't be afraid to say "hi!", and I can't wait to meet all of you!
