Class Experience

Drawing faces are hard and intimidating. Let me help you! *All levels are welcome*

In this drawing intensive camp, we will draw eyes, noses, mouths, ears, and a portrait step by step by focusing on shapes, light and shadow, anatomy, and line.

Step 1: Shapes
We will learn to identify and accurately draw the big shapes to set a strong foundation.
Step 2: Light and Shadow
We will learn to pinpoint the light and shadow to give the drawing more depth.
Step 3: Anatomy
We will learn to identify anatomical points to make our drawing feel more believable.
Step 4: Line
We will learn to purposely manipulate the way we draw (line) to give the drawing even more depth.

This will be a 5 day camp - one day for each feature and one day for the portrait. This class will be interactive. Learners will work together to pinpoint the steps in my drawing or example first before individually working on their own drawings. Plenty of examples and demos will be provided and explained. The class atmosphere will be light, and questions will be welcome at anytime. Individualized, constructive critiques and praise will be given throughout the class. I know I always needed (and still do) extra time to finish my drawing. If your learner is like me, they will need to finish their drawing at home.

Day 1 - Mouth
This camp will start with the simplest feature - the mouth. Learners will draw the mouth accurately first before shading it in.
Day 2 - Nose
Learners will practice the steps they learned and draw a nose accurately before shading it in.
Day 3 - Ear
Learners will draw a more difficult feature - the ear - by applying the steps they learned and will continue practicing before shading it it.
Day 4 - Eye
Learners will draw a popular favorite feature - the eye - and will continue practicing their newfound skills.
Day 5 - Portrait
This camp will finish with adding all the features and the skills learners have acquired to draw a portrait. *Learners can choose to draw their own portrait or follow along with the example.

Art is a bit of a mystery, and my goal on Outschool is to give learners the tools to be able to draw whatever they want. Please message me if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to meeting you all!
Learning Goals

Teacher expertise and credentials
I graduated from Grand Central Atelier in New York City where I was trained to draw and paint realistically in a traditional way. While I usually draw realistically, I also enjoy using this approach to draw in different styles. My goal is to teach children the tools of drawing and give them the opportunity to practice applying them so that they will be able to draw what they want independently.
