In this one-class students will create a portrait inspired by the one M.C. Escher did of his wife. Maurits Cornelis Escher (17 June 1898 – 27 March 1972), usually referred to as M. C. Escher, was a Dutch graphic artist born in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. He is known for his woodcuts, lithographs and mezzotints. These feature impossible constructions, architecture and tessellations (means "like tiles"). He also illustrated books, designed tapestries, postage stamps and murals. 1st Class: Students will sketch the outline of a head with my guidance I will show them step by step how to turn the solid head into looking like the peel from an orange Students will sketch in the background clouds paying attention to them going from larger at the top to smaller and closer together at the bottom as they would appear in nature (and the artist did in his piece) 2nd Class: Students, with my guidance going step by step, will shade the rind to look 3D We will finish by shading the bottoms of the clouds This is a guided drawing and shading class perfect for an older child who wants to draw and shade but needs guidance.
