Class Experience

Whether you just started or you have years of experience, if you can hold a pencil, then you can draw! But if you are looking to improve your drawing skills and techniques, then you have come to the right place!

From breaking down the anatomy of a figure to illustrating dynamic poses, this camp is sure to improve student’s skills in art. Though many of the techniques taught in this camp will apply to any form of drawing, we will be focusing on digital art.

Alongside their instructor, students will take part in 8 sessions of drawing activities and will leave the course with an array of their very own digital artworks! The topics for each session is as follows:

>>> Session 1: Basics and Shape Breakdown
            Students will learn how to break a reference down into basic shapes to understand their place in the 3D space, along with some good drawing warm-ups and habits to use throughout the course.
>>> Session 2: Anatomy
            Students will analyze the human body and learn the placements of some key bones and muscles to gain a better understanding on how they look and move.
>>> Session 3: Posing and Persona
            Using the anatomy and reference breakdown learnt in the previous two sessions, students will learn how to pose their characters to make their personality clear and movements lively.
>>> Session 4: Perspective
            Students will learn how to implement perspective in their artwork, amplifying the mood of the drawing and making it more dynamic.
>>> Session 5: Backgrounds
            Students will learn some essential tips to drawing backgrounds, helping their character and/or other subjects harmonize with their environment.
>>> Session 6: Line Art
            With one of the previously completed sketches, students will learn how to use line work (or even a lack of such) to establish an art style and portray a chosen feeling to their art.
>>> Session 7: Coloring
            Continuing from the line art, students will be shown multiple techniques to adding color to their art, discussing their pros and cons along the way. This will allow students to find which method works best for their style to use for the future.
>>> Session 8: Shading and Details
            The final session will run students through the finishing touches of their artwork. Students will learn how to use lighting to their advantage and add details to give their final piece that extra pizazz!

It is recommended that learners have a little bit of art experience, but complete beginners are more than welcome! Learners will watch a demonstration from the instructor as they draw alongside them for a hand-on learning experience. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

For this camp, we will be using Medibang Paint as our free art software of choice, but if students already have a preferred software that they are familiar with, they are more than welcome to use that instead.
We can’t wait to see what everyone creates!
