In this 4 week course, we will learn the process of drawing a character starting with brainstorming and taking it all the way to drawing a character in an environment.

Beginner - Intermediate Level
This class is a beginner to intermediate class for drawing a character in a cartoon style. The students will learn some techniques for practicing drawing like blind contour drawing and human proportions. The class will help students come up with an idea for their character and for the imaginary world. For the first 2 classes I will structure the class starting with a drawing excercise that will be 30mins. The remaining time will be some instruction followed by time to work on the project. Homework will be assigned to finish the phase of the project for that week. The last 2 classes will include a short lecture on the next steps of the process: Drawing the character and the background whild adding color. I will be sharing my computer screen with the class in order to clearly show drawing techniques. Students are not required to use Photoshop, but I will be using it to best convey drawing steps.
Learning Goals
Students will learn illustration practices and techniques so they can draw a character in their own style.

4 Lessons
over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
Intro To Drawing
This week will focus on seeing the world with an artist eye. We will do blind contour drawings to warm up. Then brainstorm ideas for our character and the scene. 55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Working with Reference
We will choose an idea for a character and look for reference photos using an image search website (kiddle.co) Then we will sketch out ideas for our character and their world. 55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Character Drawings and World Drawings
This lesson will be about how to sketch with pencil and finalize shapes for the character and the world. 55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Color
For this final lesson, we will learn about colors and how to use them. Then we will show our final drawings in color. 55 mins online live lesson
