We love playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Switch! Let’s have some fun drawing ourselves as characters from the game! First, we will learn to draw the main characters (Us! Humans!). Then, we will practice making animal villagers and choose the animal character we want to draw ourselves as. Students will learn to sketch and use basic shapes to make characters. We will review the sketching and inking process to help characters look more polished and professional. Students can also try to use reference pictures for greater accuracy when drawing items like clothing, hats, and accessories for their characters. I will discuss the character design process with students as we go along so that they can arrive at a character concept that they are happy with in the end. If they can’t make their perfect character by the end of the class, they should have enough techniques to help them get there. Students will be able to watch me draw with a pencil/pen on paper while I explain what I am doing. The students will be able to follow along with me and ask questions as we go along in the drawing and designing process. Your student can find outfits they do not have in-game via the hyperlinks provided and learn how to apply them to the character they are drawing. It is not mandatory to use the clothing items found on this website, but it would be good for students to have an idea of what they might like their character to wear. I have also left the link of the list of all villagers that can help your student choose which animal type they would like to try to draw first. We will be drawing several different animal body types, but it will be based on what the class would like to see since there won’t be enough time to draw every single animal type. I look forward to seeing the art your marvelous students create! I can’t wait for you to see it, too! <3

Supply List
The student will need whatever media type they wish to draw with. I will be showing the process using a pencil, ballpoint pen, and copy paper and will not be able to offer help if they opt to draw digitally (like on Procreate). I would highly advise students to start drawing these characters with the basics: pencil, pen, paper, large eraser (something larger than the eraser at the end of the pencil). It will be helpful for the student to have access to the internet or Switch to look up reference pictures for their character but this is optional.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there!
I've gathered up my years of experience with crafts, drawing, and science and dumped them into classes I'm excited to teach! I love showing students new possibilities. Anything from advancing their drawing skills to understanding why milk gives some people diarrhea. I think it's important to tap into a student's curiosity and let that sense of wonder motivate them to explore the world around them.
I've been an artist since I could hold a pencil, but have been a manga and webtoon artist for over ten years. My passion for science has also led me to get degrees in chemistry, and health science. I am am currently pursuing my doctorate in Pharmacy.
I have been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) online for almost 4 years and have taught over 2,000 students in that time. I have also been able to volunteer as a tutor in my community for Homework Help. Teaching science enrichment camps have also been a great joy for me. I am so looking forward to sharing my passions of science and art with students!
[During the summer my schedule will change every month. So, please favorite any classes you are interested in so that you can get updated when I make another time available. Thank you so much for your interest in my classes!]
