Animals are an incredible source of inspiration for artists. In this ongoing weekly class, we will use reference photos of animals from many species all over the world to learn the intricacies of graphite pencil drawing. We will draw a different animal each week. Copy and paste this link for a full Winter/Spring Schedule (with pictures). https://cdn.filestackcontent.com/FEVHbbHQue8YA4o38ikw I will continue this class throughout the year, updating the schedule as we go. I welcome you to Draw along with me for as long as you like, or pause your subscription when needed to choose the animals you would like to draw. **WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE CLASS** I will draw alongside the students in real-time, demonstrating my drawing process through my camera. I start by finding basic shapes in the animal to get the right proportions, then we will refine the lines, next We shade to add form and depth and then finish up with details to bring the drawing to life. Students will see how I navigate through the messy beginnings, gradually refining as I go. I will demonstrate that making mistakes is part of the process, not a reason to stop. We will explore many unique and wonderful animals and challenge ourselves to depict features such as fur, feathers, whiskers, and scales. While I will teach techniques and demonstrate how I approach these challenges, I will also emphasize that "there is more than one way to do a thing." Students may experiment with their own techniques, or closely follow my methods. Both approaches hold valuable lessons in the artists' learning process. **SHARING** Students can share their work halfway through the course and again at the end, though this is not required. Some students may not finish by the end of the session and continue to work on their pieces afterward. This is perfectly fine, as some artists take more time. Students will be given a link to our "Share Board" on Padlet, where they can post their artwork and view each other's finished pieces more closely. Positive feedback can be left in the comments section. **WEEKLY CHALLENGE** Each week, students will receive a challenge to complete during their own time, allowing them to apply the skills taught in class. Drawing is a skill that can be learned, and in time they will be able to use the methods I teach to create their own beautiful animal artwork. Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an artist working in various mediums such as acrylic, watercolors, gouache and oil paints. I have been teaching art for 10 years in person and 4 years here on Outschool. I have experience teaching in a homeschool coop, in a private school, and in my home using my dining room as my studio. I have taught all age children from 4 - 16yrs. The classes in my home tend to be geared toward 10-16 yrs.
Here on Outschool I have had the pleasure of creating and teaching arcrylic painting, watercolor painting, colored pencil and graphite drawing classes. My ongoing Weekly Sketchbook Drawings class has been my most enjoyed class and I have been teaching it for 4 years and still going strong.
