The learner is assessed through discussion and participation. The intent of the class is to explore and have fun with drawing.Class Experience
In this ongoing class, we will create a fun drawing using simple shapes and lines to draw everyday objects, animals, characters, or places. Students in this age range are developing fine motor skills and an awareness of geometric shapes, and this class supports that development. As the instructor I will guide students through the drawing process, however students are free to add their own details and interpretation of the subject matter. Students may use whatever drawing materials they have available, including: pencils, crayons, markers, black markers, and colored pencils. Each session will open with a mini presentation about a shape or a line. The presentation may include: shape vocabulary, photo references, art instruction. Then we will create a drawing together based on a particular shape or line. For example, we might draw a flower garden when learning about circles, or robots when we are learning about rectangles. We will color the drawing and talk about color choice as we go along. The structure of the class is as follows: 5 for check in and slide presentation, 15 minutes to draw (students may discuss process and ask questions during this time), and 5 minutes to share. Sequence of lessons: Week 1) Circle- Ants Week 2) Triangle- Rocket Ship Week 3) Square- Robots Week 4) Oval- Fish Week 5) Rectangle- Train Week 6) Circle- Garden Week 7) Semi-Circle- Bird Week 8) Diamond- Kite Festival Week 9) Rectangle- The City Week 10) Triangle- Castle Week 11) Oval- Airplane Week 12) Triangle- Sailboat Week 13) Oval- Bumble Bee Week 14) Triangle- Forest Week 15) Rectangle- Fire Truck Week 16) Wavy line- Jellyfish Week 17) Oval- Dinosaur Week 18) Semi-circle- Rainbow Week 19) Circle- Caterpillar Week 20) Oval- Crab Week 21) Oval- Penguin Some students in this age group are just learning to hold the pencil and are beginning to scribble and to form shapes. Other students are adept at holding the pencil and are able to form shapes and recognizable objects. There is wide range of skills in this class and I strive to create a classroom environment in which students feel supported and encouraged wherever they may be. I look forward to drawing with you!
