Draw Together: Fantastic Landscapes & Backgrounds
What's included
1 live meeting
1 in-class hours per weekClass Experience
This class is for young artists who want to practice drawing landscapes, backgrounds, and scenery, in guided drawing lessons. We'll draw our inspiration from fairy tales, legends, movies, video games, books, and travel-- illustrating scenes from sci-fi, fantasy, realism, and history that spark our imaginations! My goal is to help my students develop the skills they need to create landscapes and backgrounds that are more three-dimensional and realistic. Here's what is coming up soon: Nov. 16: African savanna! Nov. 23: NO CLASS (Thanksgiving holiday) Nov. 30: Disney's Magic Kingdom Dec. 7: Windermere Peaks (a mountain-ringed lake in England) Dec. 14: Ski resort! Dec. 21: Gingerbread village! Dec. 28: NO CLASS (Christmas/winter holiday) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Future lessons will be inspired by student requests: - Scenes from your favorite books, movies, or games! - Towers, castles, & cottages! - Mountains, valleys, cliffs, & canyons! - Oceans & underwater scenes! - Trees, vines, rocks, & other natural elements. - Alien cities & fantastical forests! - Floating islands, caves, & bridges! - Creatures & characters that inhabit strange lands! *** YOUR ideas here! What else will YOU suggest?? What does a normal class look like? The scenes that we draw will be inspired by student suggestions! We'll use reference images to help guide our drawings. I'll start by drawing a loose, light sketch of the scene, while students follow along. This allows us to get all the pieces in the right places before we refine our outlines. Every so often, we'll pause so I can help check for accuracy (this is optional!). After we sketch, students will have time to outline, color, and add details! You may use any media you feel comfortable with-- pencil, marker, colored pencils, watercolors, or even a digital drawing tablet! I'll provide guidance and suggestions, but the amount of coloring or shading completed may depend on the student's preferred working speed. Students are welcome to closely follow my drawing, or to add their own creative inspiration! We'll have some time for chatting and interaction, however I'll be giving instruction for a good part of our class time, and will encourage students to focus on their drawing. As much as possible, I'll take requests for items that students wish to add into our scenes! Near the end of class, we'll have "share time." This is optional, for students who wish to let their classmates admire their artwork. And admire it we will! ***************************************** To see more of Ms. Kristy's classes, visit my teacher profile here: https://outschool.com/teachers/Kristine-Mankin

I've been teaching students to draw realistically for over fifteen years! My goal is to give my students a good foundation of techniques that they'll feel comfortable using on their own-- especially when it comes to applying their own creativity to their work. I always ask myself what I would have wanted from an art class when I was a kid, and use that to inspire my class offerings. This class is definitely inspired by my love of fantasy, and my desire to create encompassing visual worlds for the characters I loved.
