Class Experience

Jump in to class anytime! This class is ideal for children who can identify and write the letters of the alphabet and are beginning to learn letter sounds and how to blend them together. They will be supported and encouraged through writing simple sentences to build their sight word knowledge. I am a very kind and patient teacher with many years of experience teaching young children to read and write. Keeping learners engaged with drawing, movement, listening, spelling and writing in a nicely paced lesson keeps learning fun.

First, learners will activate their prior knowledge and discuss the item we are drawing. We will draw a picture of the item together and each learner will have an opportunity add their own individual flair to their picture. Next, we'll label our drawing. Students will discuss each sound they hear in the word and the corresponding letter needed for the label. Learners will segment and blend the word. Then we'll work together to write a simple sentence using the label and high frequency sight words. Each learner will have the opportunity to share their picture and contribute to the spelling and writing process. Learners can collect the pictures and sentences from the ongoing classes to reread and reinforce their reading skills.

Week of March 22-26: Draw a bus.
Week of March 29- April 2: Draw gum.
Week of April 5 - April 8: Draw a bug.
Week of April 12 April 16: Draw a cat.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their phonics and spelling skills. They will develop recognition and spelling skills for high frequency sight words. They will learn conventions of sentences such as capitalization and punctuation.
