Who's ready to design a city? This is a fun, interactive 2-day winter art camp for artist ages 6-10. This is a 2-DAY version of my 'Design Your Own City' class. In this class, young artists explore the wonderful world of watercolor and mixed media.

Day 1: First, we will talk about two-dimensional shapes (rectangle, square, oval, triangle, circle) and three-dimensional shapes (cone, sphere, cylinder, cube, rectangular prism). Learners are then led through an easy to follow, step-by-step drawing of a three-dimensional city on watercolor paper. After the buildings are complete, we will add a street and sidewalk. Learners will have the option to add a crosswalk and a storm drain. Then it's time to add the creative details that make your city unique. ‘Who lives in your city?’ ‘Is it snowing?’ ‘How do people travel in your city?’ 'What restaurants are in your city?' These are just a few of the questions we will be discussing as we design our cities. Learners will also be shown awesome student artworks to help inspire them.

Day 2: On this day we focus on finishing the details of our cities and then we will color them using a variety of art mediums. We will first use crayons and watercolor paints to create a wax-resist watercolor painting. A demonstration will be provided. We will also talk about a variety of watercolor techniques: layering, line wash, wet-on-wet, and wet-on-dry. Learners may also use other art supplies: markers, colored pencils, etc. I encourage them to experiment and have fun with the art mediums they have. We will discuss a variety of ways we can add color to the buildings, street, and sky. I am happy to assist each student with their individual ideas. Learners are welcome to share their beautiful cities at the end of Day 2. Lastly, you will need to find a place in your home to hang up this mixed-media masterpiece.

*Please note that this is a beginner lesson. However, it is HIGHLY recommended that your child has a little experience drawing with a ruler before taking this class.

Get ready to be creative! I can't wait to hear your city plans!

***This class will not be cancelled due to low enrollment.
