Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
Draw Nature Sketch & Chill is intended to provide a calm environment for students to draw - take a mind break -- and create a positive reset for their week. The teacher will greet each student and through modeling encourage all participants to create a mind-dump sentence to explain their thoughts/feelings/emotions of the week. I will model through gentle humor how to turn that sentence into something less irritating.

Students can talk with each other using conversation and gentle volume.
Students may create a drawing that follows the topic or may venture off on the topic of their choosing. The teacher will draw along with students and share positive self-talk about her own artwork.

Students may use any spare piece of paper, envelope, post-it note, or lovely art paper. It will all work well. Bring drawing pencils, colored pencils, or digital tools.

For students who like to trace or students who like a little head's up knowing what the teacher will be drawing, the teacher will provide a grayscale image before class. Students can print the image and use it on their lightbox. Perfection will not be embraced.

The teacher will share the following strategy via modeling:
First light sketch
Next darkest of dark areas
Gentle Color wash over all areas avoid areas of highlight
Deep color wash over darkest areas
White color over lightest areas
Gentle Color wash to saturate areas and blend the darkest areas with main color
Lighter color was to blend the main color with the lightest of highlights
