In this one-time class, students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Disney character (if they chose) as they learn to draw Mirabel Madrigal from Disney’s “Encanto.” Rest assured that I will be in costume as well (dressed as Mirabel, of course!) During our drawing steps, students will enjoy watching the movie clips from Encanto’s “Surface Pressure,” “The Family Madrigal,” and if we have time, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” Let’s have fun drawing together! This lesson focuses on these following art skills: - Cartoon style portrait development (face drawing) - Basic shaping for facial features via a step-by-step guide - Tips for drawing & coloring hair - Blouse drawing detail Although the main focus of class will be developing caricature art skills, we will also chat about Mirabel and the Madrigal family. “What is your favorite song from Encanto? Who is your favorite character? Students can participate during the interactive segments of class, but may also choose to remain silent and focus primarily on completing their art work. Students can follow along with the step-by-step drawing instructions, but are also welcome to have creative freedom with their drawing. Younger & less advanced artists can expect a more simplified version of eye detail and coloring, while older and more advanced students can focus more on detailed work. After drawing our sketch of Mirabel, students will spend the remainder of their time coloring and adding details to their work while I play the movie clips of Disney Encanto’s most popular songs and throw in some Encanto movie trivia. At the end of class, students will have the opportunity to show off their work if they chose to. Note: In this class, we will only have time to draw (not color) Mirabel. However, students have the freedom any time after class to color her at their leisure. Please take into consideration that this class will have spoilers about the movie if the student has not watched or is not familiar with Disney’s Encanto. Because ‘Practice Makes Perfect,” I’ll be sure to email parents my printable step by step instructions after class so that your art lover has accessible tips and tricks to easily draw Mirabel whenever they please.
