Class Experience

In this one time class, students will be taken through a brief tour of Pop Art culture. First of all, we will start by learning some fun facts and trivia about the style, used as a class ice-breaker. Next, we will look at some classic and modern examples, share observations and opinions.

The remainder of the session will be dedicated to practical modelling and independent drawing. I will guide the students through the process of creating a 3D letter or number and demonstrate how to build up the design into a piece of Word or Number Art.

Students are able to adapt the level of detail or difficulty to suit their current artistic level. I will talk them through the process and share various options with examples of each. The focus of the lesson is on having fun; I want each learner to just enjoy being creative rather than worrying too much about technique or perfection.

They can do this in several ways by:
* printing out the provided letter/number templates to use as a starting point (cut out or trace over them)
* using the provided letter/number templates as a guide or reference only ( freehand copy the lettering style and resize to suit)
* drawing letters/numbers onto a squared paper template to assist with consistent size and layout of design (provided)
* starting from scratch with their own unique typography style

At the end of class, students will have the opportunity to share their work or work-in-progress (optional) or post their finished design to the classroom.

Hi and welcome! My name is Paula, aka: 'The Tutorly Owl' and I'm really pleased you've stopped by.

I’m a qualified UK Primary School Teacher of nearly twenty years, and I teach a broad range of subjects. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education, with an English Specialism and graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Warwick. In 2021, I also completed a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course am I am now a certified ESL teacher. I’m a great believer in lifelong learning so I’m always looking for my next personal challenge!

With a true passion for teaching and learning, I’m really excited to bring my enthusiasm, favourite lessons and personal teaching style to the Outschool platform.

So what are my absolute favourites?

Well, in a nutshell, anything that involves drawing on my creativity!
* Writing: stories, poetry, play scripts, posters, presentations or anything else imaginative!
* Arts and Crafts: card-making, 3D papercraft projects, drawing, painting, working with clay

I believe that learning should be student-focused, interactive and above all fun. I aim to tailor my lessons to my students’ needs, adapting the content and approach for the best possible outcomes. I am always open and willing to listen to, and respond to lesson requests. In fact, students are the best source of inspiration and are full of amazing ideas. If you have something in mind, let me know, and I will try to work my magic and create it for you.

You might have already guessed it, but I absolutely love owls! They’re probably going to make a sneaky appearance in some classes, so watch out for them! My mum loves owls too! As part of my small little business, I designed and made my own owl clocks range – so cute!

When I’m not teaching, I like to relax and enjoy time with my family. I often spend whole days working with my sister on new craft techniques and ideas. I can get extremely messy!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page today! I hope to see your learner in the classroom.

Best wishes,
Paula (The Tutorly Owl)
