40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This 40-minute, interactive class will introduce students to key concepts around earning and spending money. Your child will be immersed in an animated story where, together, we will help my friend think of ways for her to earn money, comparison shop for a necessary purchase, and advertise for a service. At the end, we'll work together to create a cartoon flyer for a side gig that the class has decided on. LEARNING GOALS - Framework for thinking about ways to earn money (as a child or young adult) - Evaluating a purchase decision and basic comparison shopping - How to approach marketing a service STUDENT PARTICIPATION - Introducing themselves and talking about something they are interested in - Brainstorming ways to earn money based on my friend’s interests, talents, and skills - Providing examples of when they (maybe unknowingly) did comparison shopping - Coloring a poster to promote the new business they’ve jointly created TEACHING METHOD This class weaves together a story with some basic concepts around financial literacy. Note that the teacher will be interacting with scripted, animated characters (like a live Blue Clues) as a way to better engage students. This also necessitates that class sizes stay small (3 - 5 students). By the way, I custom-made the animations in this class, and would appreciate feedback! CLASS OUTLINE 1. Introductions and brief overview of key concepts and vocabulary [5 minutes] 2. Storytime along with two brief activities [15 minutes] 3. Coloring activity with concurrent debrief [10 minutes] REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE There is no additional knowledge required of students. NECESSARY SUPPLIES - Drawing supplies (e.g. markers, pencils, coloring pencils, crayons) and paper ADDITIONAL NOTES If you feel like your student would benefit from this class, but cannot afford it, please reach out -- I would be happy to offer a discount. If the times listed do not work for you, please message me and I will do my best to offer a session that fits your schedule. Class may run slightly over, please let me know if you have a hard deadline at 30-minutes so I can strive extra hard to wrap things up on time.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Blake is currently a fellow at Stanford University where, because of the COVID-19 lockdown, he has helped faculty develop online teaching-enabled curriculum focused on entrepreneurship. When he tried to introduce these same concepts to his young sister he noticed the lack of engaging and interactive curriculum for 3rd to 6th graders on the subject and started creating his own. Aside from expertise on the topic, he also has many years of experience as a volunteer teacher for young students.
Blake earned his BBA from Emory University and his MBA from Stanford University.
