1-2 hours per week. A practice assignment is given after each class to drill the skills taught in that day's lesson. In this class, I don't look at much of the student work during class but I am very interested in seeing the practice work.Class Experience
We will learn how to draw all kinds of cartoon faces using my step-by-step methods. Along the way, you will learn some building blocks of cartooning that will improve your overall drawing skills. WEEK ONE: We learn the basic technique central to drawing consistent cartoon faces, front-facing. This will change the way you look at faces and help you to simplify the facial features. WEEK TWO: We turn the character heads and learn how to apply the techniques from week 1 onto a 3-dimensional character who could be facing in any direction. WEEK THREE: We finally get time to dive into the topics of hair, hair styles, and facial hair, as well as what the face looks like from an over-the-shoulder view. WEEK FOUR: Expanding our repertoire, we learn how to apply accessories to cartoon heads. We will draw hats, glasses, headphones, and jewelry. And we look at how to make characters appear younger or older. After the course, continue drawing with me by joining my group, Draw More With Jerry Joe Seltzer https://outschool.com/groups/drawing-more-with-jerry-joe-seltzer-aHORDq7k#usVW5rGrRu

Supply List
We will be drawing together so students will need something to draw with. That could mean something simple, like pencil and paper, or advanced, like a tablet computer. Pencil users should have sharp pencils or mechanical pencils and good erasers. We will be erasing a fair bit. Any blank paper will do, no need to get a fancy drawing pad.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have worked in newspapers, children's books, and television as a cartoonist for over 25 years. Now, in semi-retirement, I homeschool our two children. Sharing my love of cartooning keeps my skills sharp and allows us to afford more Outschool classes for our twins!
