If requested, student can receive an informal assessment of the final drawing and completed homework.Class Experience
As a follow-up to the original story, "The Little Voter," students will celebrate the culture of the USA by drawing a Travel Girl as an American voter. Students of all drawing abilities are able to enjoy this class as the Travel Girl is drawn using basic shapes and lines. Students do not need knowledge of the story "The Little Voter." The class will begin with an introduction to the USA with basic facts (location, capital, food, pop culture). Next, students will look more closely at the illustration from the Little Voter story. This will serve as the model for drawing a little voter. Each student will decide design and color combinations for his/her picture. Students will also decide what other American cultural aspect to include in the drawing, for example, balloons, flags, donuts, baseball. By the end of the hour, students will have a beautiful Travel Girl drawing and know more about American society. As the teacher, I will guide students to create a unique drawing that reflects their personalities and curiosity about American culture, including voting. In the materials section below, you will find a pre-lesson activity; students should complete the boarding pass before the Bon Voyage travel to the USA. Also, you will find a basic fact sheet about American government and optional homework.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their drawing ability by using common shapes to create a personalized Travel Girl dressed as an American voter.

Teacher expertise and credentials

Master's Degree from USC
Bachelor's Degree from UCLA
I am passionate about teaching appreciation of our world's cultures, societies, and people in a fun and engaging way that will spark a lifelong curiosity about our global community and a desire to be active and productive community members. I would like to work with learners from 6 to 18 years old. I have a degree in Sociology from UCLA, visited more than 30 countries, and lived/taught in five countries. I love to explore our global community from teas to art to traditional clothing.
Since 2005, I have taught English as a foreign language. I have taught in Asia, Central America, South America and North America. I have taught all age levels from young learners to middle school students to college students. For the past five years, I have been teaching English online to very young learners in China.
I believe learning should be fun, interactive and relevant to students' lives. Students should be inspired and encouraged to be active learners and full participants in developing their knowledge of the world.
On a personal note, I have two big dreams that I'm pursuing now. The first is to live in London for a year as a writer. Because of the Covid pandemic, I am not sure when this will happen. The second is to publish The Next Great American Novel. (I have a Master's degree in Nonfiction Writing from USC.)
