Your group of adventurers have heard much about the treasures hidden in the ruins of the Misty Vale! All you need to do is to get through this mountain pass, and the lands will lie before you! If you have played DnD, you will recognize much in this brand new fantasy role-playing games - one of the most anticipated of 2023! Character creation is fast and easy, and so is play! Mirth and mayhem awaits! Learners play adventurers from any of the following Playable Kin: Human Elf Halfling Dwarf Duck Wolfkin Choosing characters from many different kin ensures many perspectives in the group of adventurers, and as the group plays together, they will learn those perspectives together. When rules are unclear, they will be further explained so that any loose ends are tied up. In role-playing, learners will develop a number of very useful life-skills: * Group dynamics - working in collaboration with others to achieve common goals * Conflict resolution - thinking about how to best resolve conflicts * Mythology - through thought experiments, the learners are introduced to myths and legends of humanity in various forms * Economy - learners get insight into how to manage a budget and limited resources * Creative thinking- learners develop their capacity for improvisational acting, thinking about arts, literature and narrative to create a cohesive story * Therapeutic qualities - emerging scholarly literature are showing more and more evidence of the positive effects of role-playing games on mental health. Week of Feb 1st: We create characters together. Rules are introduced and explained. Week of Feb 8th The learners start their exploration and enter the Misty Vale. Week of Feb 15th: The learners learn legends about different adventure site, and decide which adventure site to explore first. Week of Feb 22nd: The learners select another adventure site to explore. This class is perfectly suited for an Ongoing class as it is structured as a Sandbox.. The area has a number of adventure sites that the learners can explore, but the learners decide in which order to explore the adventure sites. Each is a self-contained adventure, so a learner who joins for Session 3 will be able to join without having experienced the first few sessions. Also, if a learner attends Session 1, but not Session 2, it is assumed that their character will be at the tavern nearby, which functions like a base of operations, making it easy to join or leave the adventures.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
Doctoral Degree from University of Alberta
I teach social studies and role-playing games. I have 35 years of experience as a Game-master of table-top roleplaying games and Live-Action Roleplay organizer and facilitator for people of ages 7+. I used that experience in my teaching, pioneering the use of games and simulations to help my students understand government, economics and social and cultural processes.
My key principle for teaching is that students learn by doing and experiencing the subject matter. Students in my classes can thus expect a lot of playing games, regardless of content, because it is fun but also because we learn better together that way.
When I'm not teaching I...play more games because...let's face it, I'm a big geek.
