Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner Level
This will be a fast but fun class as my teaching style is light but very interactive for this important topic. In this exclusive live session, students will delve into the essential features of a checking account. We will work from a toolkit that uses skills for writing and depositing checks (they're still in use), tracking their checking account balance and expenditures via mobile app, and handling unauthorized transactions. We will also discuss safeguarding important financial information and actions to take if personal banking materials or identity details are compromised.

This class is part of the Financial Literacy for High School Collection, which consists of 12 courses I am launching this autumn. In collaboration with Everfi, a prominent provider of financial education featuring an advanced online platform that makes learning fun through game-like activities connected to national standards, this collection offers a comprehensive educational experience.

Students should expect to set up a complimentary account in my Everfi classroom before the class starts and participate in an assessment following Simon, an animated character who uses his checking account for a trip to a music festival. Our in-person class discussion will build on this interactive exercise.
Learning Goals
Students will discuss and practice budgeting using a mobile app pre-class and a traditional check register during class in small groups.
Students will examine the features of a checking account through interactive video and class discussion.
