Students will be asked to read (or be read to) a portion of Dav Pilkey's Dog Man Grime and Punishment before each class. These will not be extremely long assignments. Students do not to need to master reading Dog Man Grime and Punishment to participate in this book club- it is perfectly acceptable for an adult to read the book assignments to the student. During class, we will read short excerpts of the chapters previously assigned, discuss the story's progression and themes while focusing on the specific words and phrases highlighted in class each week. We will all work on specific sight words, common words and phrases emphasizing focus on techniques to help sound out words and lastly, tactics for remembering tricky words. This course is a great way to master early reading skills, to teach consistent reading habits, and most of all to instill a love of learning and reading in the youngest of readers. Come join me and by the end of the 4 weeks, your young reader will not only have the accomplishment of reading Dog Man Grime and Punishment, but also will come away with a camaraderie that comes with sharing that experience with their peers. In each class, we will spend time creating -- that is just as important to process the story when reading and comprehending the plot of any story. Each student will be asked to bring paper and pencil, and of course their creative juices. Before class 1: students are encouraged to read the Fore-Foreword through Chapter 3. Week 1: Discuss- Fore-Foreword through Chapter 3. Create- bookmark. Week 2: Discuss- Chapters 4-8. Create- Flip-o-rama Week 3: Discuss- Chapters 9-13 Create- Draw your own comic book character Week 4: Discuss- Grime and Punishment Virtual Escape Room Create- Card for (Petey's) Mom This book club is a great way to work on reading, writing as well as socializing in an academic way. This course will be a safe space with a positive and encouraging atmosphere for all levels of readers. The escape room in our last class will be the ultimate team building experience for all enrolled... and super fun!
Learning Goals
Students will read Dav Pilkey's Dog Man Grime and Punishment, create a bookmark, a Flip-o-rama, create an original comic book character, create a card for (Petey's) mom and solve a virtual Escape room in this 4 week class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been teaching children for over 20 years and have a degree in Dance and English. We will move and learn while having fun! My performing credits include Touring the World with Broadway’s Evita, Sesame Street Live, and performing in Disney World Theme Parks as well as regional theatres for children and adults alike. It is extra fun to take class from the real life Pinkalicious, Little Red Riding Hood and Dorothy!
