Class Experience

In this one time class, we'll create a step by step portrait of our beloved hero, Dog Man and his best friend, Lil Petey. Since they are best friends, they will be hugging. This class will be interactive and students can share something they love about the Dog Man books. Students are always welcome to use the chat function if they are more comfortable participating in discussions through that feature. No prior experience needed, but be sure to bring sharpies and watercolor paints to class. All learners will receive a PDF breaking the drawing down to simple shapes. We can brainstorm backgrounds for the picture or we can draw simple hearts all around the characters.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to draw more complex pictures through a step by step drawing method and breaking down all the parts into very basic shapes. Students will create community with other fans of Dog Man.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Jennifer Schultz and I have twenty years of teaching experience. I have taught art in summer camps, after school programs, art centers and brick and mortar schools.

I have had the opportunity to work with students ages 4 through 14. My teaching philosophy is to meet the student where they are and to provide challenges through technique and critical thinking questions, so they can increase their understanding. I think art provides a great, hands on experience to other subjects (math, science, language arts, and social studies). I will be offering lots of how to draw classes, art technique, and art history (artists and movements).

I also love American music (jazz, blues, early rock) and would like to offer music appreciation classes on those topics.

I raised 3 puppies for Canine Companions for Independence and its was a blast!

I hope to see you soon in my class.
