1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
I will teach the basics of DNA, the history, structure and function. Students will get to see what DNA really looks like by doing an extraction. I will teach students about proper lab technique and safety as well. The first part of class will be direct teaching as well as a class discussion. The second part of class will be more interactive and students will engage in an inquiry based experiment by extracting DNA from strawberries. Students will practice science process skills such as: observing, predicting, inferring, and communicating their results. Collaboration and problem-solving will be an integral part of the class. My teaching style is one that will facilitate class discussion and engagement between students. There is not required experience or knowledge needed for this class.
Learning Goals
Learning Goals:

I have B.A. in Education and a Masters Degree in science education.
Although the bulk of my experience has been middle school, I've taught from Kindergarten through 9th grade.
I've enjoyed teaching the following disciplines:
physics, chemistry, biology, environmental, geology, Earth and astronomy.
I teach one time classes, weekly classes, private classes for tutoring and also teach private playdates/parties with a topic of interest.
Here are some topics I teach:
Genetics and Heredity
Atomic Structure
Physics of Roller Coasters
Bridge Building
The Science of Bubbles
Kitchen Chemistry
Human Body Systems
Climate Change
Scientific Method
My philosophy:
Science is learned best by doing!
Science is constantly evolving and there are new, exciting discoveries every day.
Working together is always key and asking questions, making inferences and developing your hypothesis makes you a scientist!
About me:
I love hanging out with my daughter, going on hikes and practicing yoga!
I look forward to seeing you in science class!
Take care,
