Welcome to Montessori on Demand: A self-paced class at your speed! Culture & Sciences Part 3, empowers learners with the knowledge and tools to develop a strong science foundation. We use certified Montessori hands-on science activities to help your learner discover the wonders of science. Let's learn together to foster their curiosity while building strong scientific principles. We are proud to be the first and only accredited Montessori school on the Outschool platform, featuring certified teachers who bring their expertise from our brick-and-mortar school located in Ontario, Canada. In this engaging and informative course, you will delve into the Montessori approach to education, with a specific focus on science experiments. You’ll explore how Montessori methods can be seamlessly integrated into your child's daily learning routine at home. Topics include various science experiments that are both fun and educational, such as magnetism, density, color mixing, and more. The course is divided into weekly segments, each focusing on distinct science experiments. Each segment includes carefully crafted video content that explains the purpose of the activity, the materials needed, and the step-by-step process of preparing and presenting it to a child. Additionally, some videos are complemented by printable resources to enhance the learning experience. Throughout the videos, presenter tips offer valuable insights and suggestions to maximize the effectiveness of each activity. Our videos demonstrate how to create Montessori materials using common supplies, eliminating the need to purchase additional resources. Students are highly encouraged to actively participate by reviewing the class content and applying Montessori methods at home, fostering a collaborative and hands-on learning experience that deepens understanding and engagement. Our teaching style is designed to be fun, engaging, and productive. The self-paced format allows you to learn at your convenience while interacting with practical and dynamic exercises. The videos and resources are structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of each activity, ensuring that you feel confident in the activities. While this course is self-paced, you’re not alone on this journey. Learners have the opportunity to book individual meetings with the teacher to ask questions, seek guidance, or receive personalized feedback. This ensures that you have the support you need to effectively implement Montessori principles and activities in your home. Through this course, children will be equipped to nurture their curiosity and scientific understanding with the Montessori approach, making science both enjoyable and educational. Join us in fostering your child's love for discovery through purposeful, hands-on learning experiences.
Learning Goals
Students will explore the principles of magnetism by experimenting with various materials to identify which ones are magnetic. They will learn how magnets attract and repel and discover the practical applications of magnetism in everyday life.
Students will conduct experiments to determine whether different objects sink or float in water. They will develop an understanding of buoyancy and density, and learn to predict outcomes based on an object's properties.
Syllabus
7 Lessons
over 2 WeeksLesson 1:
Magnetic and Non-Magnetic
The Magnetic and Non-Magnetic activity reinforces learning through scientific experiments. The objective is to successfully sort and segregate objects that are attracted to a magnet or not. Through this process, the child is encouraged to make observations that will help to identify magnetic or non-magnetic objects in their environment.
5 mins of video lessons
Lesson 2:
Sink or Float
The Sink and Float activity reinforces learning through scientific experiments. The objective is to successfully sort and segregate objects that can sink or float. Through this process, the child would arrive at definitions of weight, density, buoyancy, etc. The child would also be able to identify objects around them that could sink or float.
5 mins of video lessons
Lesson 3:
Raising Water Level with Washers
This is a science activity, and the purpose of this activity is to help the child discover that water has skin. The child will also observe that a solid can displace water which causes the water levels to rise.
Lesson 4:
Lemon Volcano
Lemon volcano is a science experiment that shows the chemical reaction between baking soda and citric fruits. It mimics a volcanic eruption and increases the interest of children towards learning more about it. Following a step by step procedure for this science experiment, allows the child to follow a flow chart and discover something new.
