Class Experience

We are going to create art and talk about the animals that live on the African savanna for this class! Join us for a Lion King craft and snack idea, but also listen and try out some Sawhili, a common language in eastern Africa. You may be surprised at how many words you already recognize! At the end of our exploration and discussion, I will show you a video that shows how to make some themed snacks for you and your family the next time you sit down to this Disney favorite. Be sure to look at the *Materials* section an collect the items you'll need for our craft. The recipes and another page will be on the Classroom page as a PDF.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Butterflies struggle to spread their wings at first... and that's okay! I embrace the productive struggle. But, what does that mean?
It means that we CAN do hard things... if we develop grit! For example, I am a 4th grade teacher who couldn’t read in 4th grade. I had to develop many strategies on my own so that I could make meaningful connections and become a problem solver. I don’t believe it should have to be that way for kids like me! This struggle is what fueled my journey to a Master’s degree in Reading with an Elementary Emphasis and an ALTA Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) distinction. I embrace my own neurodivergence and use that to connect with and support students.
With my personal and professional backgrounds and expertise, I prefer to focus on brain-based literacy classes with a foundation in the Science of Reading.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy listening to audiobooks, going on hikes and walks, tending to my jungle of houseplants, and spending quality time with my family.
