Class Experience

Drawing upon the vast Disney music library from both live-action and animated shows, along with their remixes and cover songs, we will have one featured song and spend 4-weeks dancing our hearts out together!

SONG SELECTIONS:
January 2021: "It's All Right" (from Soul)
February 2021: "Try Everything" (from Zootopia)
March 2021: "Trip a Little Light Fantastic" (from Mary Poppins Returns)
April 2021: "Carried Me with You" (from Onward)
May 2021: "Like the Zombies Do" (from Zombies 2)

We will begin by learning warm-up dances, and then explore some featured steps in each class. Dancers will learn new movement patterns and apply what they are learning in a dance combination (generally 32-63 counts), We may, at times, play games that reinforce features concepts.

Since tap dancing is very similar to learning how to play an instrument, I do require that dancers practice between meetings (ideally 15-30 minutes per day). The only way that we progress in tap is to teach your feet to move with a certain amount of specific dexterity. It makes such a difference when all dancers contribute their full effort by coming to class prepared. This class is intentionally designed to be quite small, allowing each learner ample personal attention, therefore it is priced accordingly.

Experience:
This is a beginning level tap dance class. Absolute beginners would benefit from starting with "Teach Me to Tap: Tap 101" or schedule an introductory private lesson to get familiarized with the basic sounds of tap dance. If you are uncertain about your learner's experience level, you may contact me to sign up for a level placement assessment.

Preparation & Best Practices:
Plan to join the class 5 minutes early. I recommend that you position your camera so that I can clearly view your whole body, if possible. This helps me to monitor progress and give specific feedback. Have water available, and be sure to dress appropriately for movement. Either sweatpants or leggings would be a good choice for movement.

Dance is an ongoing pursuit toward greater expression and excellence. Repeating this class multiple times is highly recommended. I will let you know when your dancer is ready to transition into an advanced beginner class. Each month, we will choose a new song and work on a new dance combination. Our goal will be to learn a portion of the song - the length will depend upon the complexity of the steps we are using and the students' pace of learning.

If you don't see a date or time you like, be sure to contact me with your requests. Also, be sure to let me know if you are looking for private classes for groups or individuals.
Learning Goals
This class is intended to give knowledge of basic tap terminology, as well as build both dexterity and fluency of movement as a developing tap dancer. Like learning any new skill, effort is key. Each person progresses at their own pace. Regular practice will improve skills such as clarity of sounds and speed of steps.
