In this one-time class, students will experience a variety of journaling techniques to discover personal writing topics.
Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
I will model and students will practice a variety of idea generating writing activities. The purpose of the journaling is to allow learners to explore personal beliefs, knowledge, and experiences in order to make discoveries about themselves and understand their connections with others and about their world. - Students will recognize the importance of exploring multiple ideas as a writer before limiting themselves to a specific topic and purpose for writing. This idea generating encourages writers to get all of their ideas down, thus preventing them from eliminating good ideas too quickly because of too much focus too soon in the writing process.
Students will need a pen/ pencil for writing and notebook paper. If students plan to continue journaling, a personal notebook or journal is an option. My modeling will include using a variety of colored pens. Students may choose to have colored pens available, but this is not a requirement.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
