In this one-time class, students will experience a variety of journaling techniques to discover personal writing topics.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
  • Students will recognize the importance of exploring multiple ideas as a writer before limiting themselves to a specific topic and purpose for writing. This idea generating encourages writers to get all of their ideas down, thus preventing them from eliminating good ideas too quickly because of too much focus too soon in the writing process.
Students will need a pen/ pencil for writing and notebook paper. If students plan to continue journaling, a personal notebook or journal is an option. My modeling will include using a variety of colored pens. Students may choose to have colored pens available, but this is not a requirement.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
