US Grade 4 - 6
Beginner Level
Understanding one's strengths is a key component in a person's self-empowerment journey. A child who has social or academic challenges related to ADHD or ASD may be faced with a daily beating to their self-esteem. The idea of a child having unique strengths can be used as a tool for them to reframe a challenging personal or social situation. This one-time class introduces the concepts of strengths and superpowers. The students pick a superpower or two that best describes them (or they make up their own). Then, they create a shield (logo) that represents them and their superpower to take home. They can use their images to remind them that they are cape-able of doing super things. The teacher uses a slide deck and Google Slides or print-version of a superhero template where each student builds their superpower shield.
Learning Goals
At the end of this class, students will describe themselves with an empowering superhero trait.
Students will create an image of their idea of a superhero who has this trait.
