Class Experience

We will begin with an introduction to the instrument. Then we will cover a brief history of the oboe, finishing the class with how students new to the oboe can get started.

Discover the Oboe will be taught in three sections with opportunities for questions and discussion in between each section. I enjoy teaching in an upbeat and friendly manner that fosters a space for discussion, openness, and inclusivity. The class is centered around a Powerpoint presentation that I will reference throughout our time together. I have also created handouts which include important information that we will cover during class.

No experience with the oboe or music is required.

About Me:

A native of Syracuse, NY, David has been playing oboe since sixth grade. He has always loved music but has also explored art, photography, and design. He eventually found himself at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam where he graduated with his Bachelor of Music in Music Business and oboe.

Throughout his young career, David has explored many facets of the double reed industry. He has been fortunate to travel to multiple instrument manufacturers to tour their processes in the USA, France, and Germany. He has even visited a world-renowned cane company in Cogolin, France.

Post-graduation, David worked for Jones Double Reed Products in Spokane, WA as the Testing Supervisor, overseeing the finishing of reeds and managing a team of reed testers. He attended two NAMM shows in 2018 and 2019. Now, David is a first-year graduate student at Northern Illinois University studying oboe performance, living in Aurora, IL with his two cats Ginger and Mouse.
