Homework
1 hour per week. Each week, students will be given various homework assignments. These will include worksheets, watching short videos, listening to various musical artists. There will also be optional projects such as creating your own instrument, learning a dance move, dress in a certain era's fashion, and creating your own song.Assessment

In this class, we will learn about the history of Rock music using the book by Jim O'Connor, "What is Rock and Roll?". We will learn about different instruments, types of recording and listening devices, as well as learn the story of many different artists and musicians. Students will learn: Class 1 - Introduction; History of musical instruments and different styles of music Class 2 - Chapter 1: Roots of Rock and Roll; Elvis Presley; Class 3 - Chapter 2: Motown; Vinyl Records and the Radio; 1950's-60's Dances Class 4 - Chapter 3 and 4: The Beatles and the British Invasion; The Beach Boys Class 5 - Chapter 5: Changing music of the 60's; Acid Rock; Woodstock; Folk Rock; Electric Guitars Class 6 - Chapter 6: Rock in the 1970's; Disco; Punk Rock; Glam Rock; David Bowie; Bruce Springsteen; The Walkman Class 7 - Chapter 7 & 9; MTV and the power of music videos; Michael Jackson; Pop Music; Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class 8 - Chapter 8 and 10; Grunge; Early 90's Rock; Hip-Hop; Rock today and the future of music Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) - -I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page. - Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets. These will be posted on the classroom page. - In my flex classes, each family can determine the level of participation in the course. - Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom. -I will check in with each student several times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Parental Guidance
This class will talk about how music has changed over the last 80 years. This will include discussions about discrimination, death of certain artists, and how drug use shaped music. These discussions will be handled in an age appropriate manner.
This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions. I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
I am also an Outschool ACE Educator, which means that I continually seek out ways to improve my teaching skills and knowledge, as well as the learner experience.
