Come and join us for this 4 week class based on the “Who was” books, where we will take a look at the life of Benjamin Franklin, his inventions, the famous kite experiment, and his participation and impact on in U.S. History.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
In this class, we will learn about Benjamin Franklin using the book by Dennis Brindell Fradin "Who Was Benjamin Franklin?" What was his childhood like? Did he really pose as a middle-aged widow and publish letters in his brothers newspaper? Why did he runaway to Philadelphia? What was his fascination with science? How many inventions did he really create? And why was he involved in some of the biggest moments of early American History? Come and join us as we find out the answers! 

Students will learn:

Class 1 -  Introduction - Chapter 2: Fascination with lightning; Childhood; 
Class 2 - Chapter 3-4: Writing as Silence Dogood; Becoming a Printer; Poor Richards Almanac
Class 3 - Chapter 5-7:  Different experiments; Participation in the American Revolutionary War
Class 4 - Chapter 8: Death and Legacy


Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) -

-I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page.  
-  Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets. These will be posted on the classroom page. 
- In my flex classes, each family can determine the level of participation in the course. 
- Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom.  
-I will check in with each student several times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Each student is encouraged to message (through the Outschool classroom) me anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class.  
- Each week, there may be additional articles, videos, or pictures that will be posted to the classroom page to engage students in open conversations about that weeks topic.

Parental Guidance
Benjamin Franklin can be a controversial figure in American history. All discussions in this class be at an age appropriate level. This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.
