US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
10 lessons//10 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Who Are You?
We start off getting to know each other as artists and the kind of art each student likes to create through a digital drawing activity called "Meet The Artist." We cover how to open a new canvas, choose a size, pick a digital brush, change colors, use layers, and exporting your drawings.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Inspirations
Next we learn from Picasso when he said "Good artists copy, great artists steal." I'll teach you how to "steal" techniques from your favorite artists to come up with your own, unique style! I'll teach you how to change the opacity, use alpha lock, and multiply your layers.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Mixing Media
This week we'll combine traditional art (like drawing on paper) with your digital art to create a beautiful blend that utilizes the best of both worlds! We'll cover layer settings, how to add images to your canvas, and how to resize and distort images.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Digital Brushes
In this lesson we'll cover how to import different brushes, how to manipulate and make edits to the ones already in your app, and how to create your own! Students will also be taught how to create their own stamp brushes using their own illustrations.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Color Collages
There are so many different color effects and palettes at your disposal on Procreate and in this class I'll show you how to use as many of them as we can fit into the hour together! From color combinations like split-complementary to tertiary, and how to pick color palettes from real life.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Special Effects & Adding Text
Let's create some awesome logos this week by choosing from the many different fonts Procreate has to offer and adding gradients, shadows, glows, and more! We'll also cover a variety of special effects you can use to spice up your illustrations too.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Timelapses
Show off your drawing process through the timelapse feature and learn how to export videos! We'll also draw a "Toon Me" challenge where you draw yourself like a cartoon character from your favorite animated show.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Animation Part 1
We dive into the animation process on Procreate by creating a traditional beginner exercise of a bouncing ball with plenty of opportunity to add your own flare to the movement as well!
 Week 9
Lesson 9
Animation Part 2
In our second-to-last class together we further your animation education by adding the finer details to your bouncing ball like squash, stretch, and blurring. Then I'll show you how to create a repeating animation, aka a GIF, from your illustrations!
 Week 10
Lesson 10
Last Class Party!
In our final class together I give your children a "Pop Quiz" which is really my fun way of celebrating all of their hard work this session. It entails watching clips from their favorite animations and getting a chance to show off the art chops they learned in my course through some fun art challenges!
Students will start by being introduced to the drawing app, Procreate, and by the end will be completely comfortable navigating it to create an assortment of art pieces.

I'll walk students step-by-step through the entire digital art creation process from digital brushes, troubleshooting, various art styles, exporting art, animating drawings, and more!
I've been an artist my entire life, honing my skills through art school and into working in the animation industry on a variety of animated shows. I've also led art therapy workshops for young children, teens, and adults. I believe the arts are a very powerful and personal endeavor and am skilled at using it as a vehicle for not only professional growth, but personal growth as well.
Homework Offered
I call my homework "follow-up activities" because they are NOT mandatory. I offer a follow-up activity after each class for those students who would like to practice further what we learned in class that day. These activities also give ample opportunities for students to earn my star student awards and grow as artists.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
I give time at the end of each class for students to present their work as part of our weekly "art critique." This is for me to see where the students are at on their artistic journey, as well as get them comfortable with sharing their work with their peers and offer tips and tricks to each other. I never force students to share their work out of respect, but have found that with this gentle approach most students come around to it when they feel comfortable and after seeing how much fun the other students have doing it.
Grades Offered
An iPad, a stylus (Apple Pencil is preferred but any stylus will work), and the drawing app Procreate ($12.99).
