US Grade 6
Greg Heffley is a sixth grade student trying to make his mark in the crazy world of Middle School. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is about the adventures of Greg as he copes with wrestling lessons in PE, almost being mugged by a gang of teenagers on Halloween, acting in the school musical production of The Wizard of Oz, and coping with the antics of his torturous big brother, Rodrick. The Diary also describes Greg's relationship with his best friend, Rowley, and some of the adventures he takes on to make himself remembered when school is done. These include running for Treasurer on the School Council, volunteering for Safety Patrol, and competing for the title of Class Clown. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a humorous, endearing story of an imaginative kid, and some of the hard-won lessons he learns as he journeys through the troubled course of sixth grade. We will have a blast discussing this fun book (Book one), and completing a unit study in class. Each class of our unit study focuses on one chapter (Month) of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and includes 5 different activities: • Before You Read Activity • Vocabulary Building • Comprehension Questions • Language Activities • Extension Activities Class Schedule: Week 1: September (read before this class starts) Week 2: October (read before this class starts) Week 3: November (read before this class starts) Week 4: December (read before this class starts) Week 5: New Year's Eve/January (read before this class starts) Week 6: February (read before this class starts) Week 7: March (read before this class starts) Week 8: April (read before this class starts) Week 9: May/June (read before this class starts)

Supply List
Students will need a copy of the novel Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney Upon enrollment you will receive the first week's handouts. Students are expected to do the assigned readings at home. We will complete the majority of the assignments during class. (I may assign a small amount of work at home to finish if needed.) This is a great book for a class literature unit. It is important that the student keep up with the weekly reading so we can complete the class activities in 9 weeks. This shouldn't be hard because it is a fun novel that keeps the reader's attention. I have created class activities I think are meaningful and that the students will enjoy too. I will send the handouts out at the beginning of each week.
