In this ongoing class, Diary of a Wimpy Kid fans will come together to read, discuss, and enjoy these amazing books by Jeff Kinney! We will discuss a new book every week as we make our way through the entire series! We will use the official Jeff Kinney/Diary of a Wimpy Kid YouTube channel throughout this class (https://www.youtube.com/user/wimpykidglobal) to hear from Jeff Kinney, watch drawing tutorials, and discuss all things Wimpy Kid. Learners will have a chance to share their favorite parts of each book/section every week. We will discuss main ideas, characters, plot, setting, and many other aspects of these fun and detailed books! Discussing these elements will help children with reading comprehension and will help them to realize all the different parts of a story (which will help their writing). I'll also ask the children to write down any unfamiliar words they find as they're reading so we can go over these words and define them, expanding on everyone's vocabulary. We will do other fun things in this class, like Wimpy Kid Mad Libs, writing our own Wimpy Kid comics, drawing our own Wimpy Kid book covers, watching short clips from the official Wimpy Kid movies, and more. As a mom with 4 sons who have read every single one of these books MULTIPLE times, I'm excited to meet your students and share in the Wimpy Kid fun with them. We are dedicated fans over here and we can't wait to meet more dedicated fans! :) PLEASE HAVE THE BOOK FULLY READ BEFORE CLASS STARTS EACH WEEK so that you can participate in discussions and activities! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Alicia, a homeschooling mom of four boys! I LOVE teaching music and language arts!
I hold a BA in English with a two-year music concentration from Stetson University. I started my career in the editing world, editing STM (science, technology, and medicine) texts for several years before jumping feet first into opening a music school. I have been teaching music for 22 years as a private music instructor and also in pre-K-8 school settings. Of course my love for reading, writing, and the English language is always a passion! I am a published poet and am currently working on an early chapter book series called “Flick”. I also love teaching language arts to our homeschooling community here in NY. I have been balancing my love for English and music for a very long time!
Every child has his or her own learning style. I pride myself on being fun, relatable, and intuitive when it comes to reaching all types of learners. My passion is to bring not just information, but a love of music and the English language to my pupils.
Here's a fun fact about me: I love to bake! I can't promise homemade cookies during your online sessions, but I can promise that I look forward to seeing you in one of my classes! :)
