The Owl Diaries Books are so great for children ages 5-8, or anyone that enjoys early chapter books. They appeal to our imaginations as we read Eva's diary entries and enjoy her doodles. Eva's Treetop Festival is a great early chapter book with a lot of vibrant illustrations. Your learners will love seeing the ways that Eva organizes her thoughts and reactions in her diary. The kids will create their own journal entries starting out with lists and prompts inspired by the book, and...
Students will learn a lot of different approaches to keeping their own diaries and expressing their thoughts. We will discuss new vocabulary words, and strategies for reading stories that we love without letting a few new confusing words ruin the experience. We will touch on themes as we discuss some friendship conflicts in the story. We will express ourselves through some art projects, most notably we will construct a paper owl character.
Each week learners will be asked to: a. Complete the assigned reading b. Answer the weekly video lesson question c. Complete personal diary entries
Students should supply for themselves: A copy of Eva's Treetop Festival: A Branches Book (Owl Diaries #1) by Rebecca Elliott (Available from amazon for $4.99) A notebook of your choosing for diary entries pens, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, or markers Supplies for our culminating art project: A simple paper lantern (Alternatively an inflated balloon), scraps of colorful paper, scissors, and glue dots (tape, or a glue stick will also work). These should be readily available at a low cost in most dollar stores and craft stores.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
