Deutsch Ist Klasse! Wir Lieben Tiere. Learn About Animals. in German! No prior knowledge of German is required. This is a German class designed with young elementary-aged children in mind, for beginners and advanced beginners. Deutsch Ist Klasse! Wir Lieben Tiere. will teach your child how to say the German names of various animals such as 'dog, cat, rabbit, tiger, bear, etc.). Your child will also learn how to describe these animals using descriptive German adjectives such as "fast, slow, tall, short, etc.". This is an interactive class where your child will be able to start speaking German from the very beginning, using complete sentences. Your child will be interacting with a German native speaker, a linguist, with a passion for teaching children about languages and other cultures. We will start with a short introduction, followed by the presentation of various animals and adjectives to describe them using realia, props, flash cards, and lots of TPR (Total Physical Response). The student will learn at least two sentence patterns (This is a ...) and (... is ...). I also pay attention to correct pronunciation and enunciation. There will be lots of interaction with the teacher. Since this class is a small-group class, the students will have plenty of opportunities to practice what they have learned. My name is Sibylle Gray; I have four children and a passion for languages, reading, knitting, crocheting, painting, origami, learning about history and other cultures, hiking, fishing and baking bread and cakes.
I hold a Master's Degree in Linguistics (English, German, Spanish).
I have taught in-class German at private co-ops to children ages five through sixteen and I have been an online ESL (English as a second language) teacher for over 5years. I also have the 120-hour TEFL/TESOL certification.
Before going to university, I studied nursing and worked at a hospital as an R.N. I also worked on an ambulance for several years in addition to being a volunteer E.M.T. at the German Red Cross and a youth leader at the German Red Cross. I have a passion for the medical field and I enjoy being around other people.
I grew up bilingually and I have always enjoyed languages, history and other cultures. I was able to experience and compare the American and German culture first-hand, from which I have certainly benefited greatly.
Understanding and valuing other cultures are very important, especially in today's age and time. We all need to know more about each other so as to grow together and make the world a better place.
I am a passionate knitter and I am proud to say that my three older children all know how to knit and crochet. I love knitting hats, shawls, scarves, blankets, and many other things. I also love crocheting lace (using thread) and tatting.
I teach English (TEFL, TESOL) to international students and a few years year ago, one of my students introduced me to "origami". My children and I fell in love with origami and every evening, we get together to do origami.
I also enjoy painting with water colors and acrylics and I love drawing. My favorite motifs are unicorns as well as kawaii, chibis and manga images.
When I am on the road, at a doctor's office, at the park and even when we are fishing, you will find me either reading a book or knitting a hat or shawl (which might be the reason I haven't caught anything in a while :).
