US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
This ongoing course supports the development of early literacy skills and helps learners build a strong foundation to become successful readers. The overall focus of this course is on phonological awareness and phonics which are two essential components to becoming a capable, confident, and fluent reader. Each lesson is packed full of learning opportunities while also incorporating a theme and a storyline to make it extra fun for students. I begin class by introducing learners to a mystery and asking for their expert detective skills to help solve the case. They will be required to complete 5 “missions” which are centered around phonological awareness (rhyming, word manipulation, blending, and segmenting) and phonics (sounding out words, CVC patterns). These missions are engaging and include songs, games, and lots of opportunities for student participation. Upon completion of each mission, learners will unlock a new clue. At the end of class, students will use the 5 clues to solve the case. In addition to the course content, I also provide a printable extension activity each week. This extension activity is not mandatory, however, it is available to students to extend their learning outside of class. This course is perfect for students who already know their letters and most or all sounds. I am a certified teacher with an additional specialist qualification in reading and I am very passionate about instilling a love for reading in young learners. I believe that reading, and learning to read, should be an enjoyable experience. I make learning to read fun and provide all learners with a safe, welcoming learning environment. Each one of my students is very important to me. I hope to see you in my classroom soon! This ongoing course has 11 different lessons which are completed over 11 weeks' time. I will teach the lessons in order as they are listed below. Once all 11 lessons are complete, I will begin again at week 1, so students are welcome to join at any time as the lessons do not need to be completed in order. Students may also continue to take the lessons more than once after cycling through all 11. Week 1: The Case of the Unknown Fossil - AT word family Week 2: The Case of the Mysterious Noise - AM word family Week 3: The Case of the Missing Cake - AN word family Week 4: The Case of the Vanishing Vegetables - AP word family Week 5: The Case of the Bare Bookshelves - IG word family Week 6: The Case of the Empty Cookie Jar - IN word family Week 7: The Case of the Muddy Farmhouse - IP word family Week 8: The Case of the Disappearing Donuts - OG word family Week 9: The Case of the Giant Footprint - OP word family Week 10: The Case of the Banana Bandit - UG word family Week 11: The Case of the Missing Cheese - ED word family **This class is typically 25 minutes long, however, if a section is full it may take between 25-30 minutes to complete each lesson**

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone! My name is Danielle. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child and Youth Development as well as a Bachelor of Education degree. I am a certified teacher qualified to teach Kindergarten-Grade 6. I also have additional specialized qualifications in Reading and Primary Education and have taken numerous professional development courses focusing on literacy and mathematics. I also have my TESOL certification for teaching English. I consider myself to be a continuous and lifelong learner and am committed to embracing the challenge of professional growth in order to provide your child with the best possible learning experiences.
Over the past 8 years, I have been a classroom teacher and have taught many grades. I currently teach Literacy, Math, and Science to Junior and Senior Kindergarten students. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember and it is truly my passion. I strive to create innovative classes that keep my students engaged while learning at the same time. For the past 3 years, I have also been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to students through an online platform. I have taught thousands of ESL classes in person and online. I have taught English to students from all over the world including China, Peru, Mongolia, South Korea, Malaysia, Brazil, and Japan. It can be difficult for young children to learn through a computer screen, however, this experience has strengthened my ability to be an engaging teacher even while teaching virtually. I keep my students engaged by utilizing technology, incorporating movement when possible, making the content relatable, and learning through hands-on experiences.
I am a mother to a 3.5-year-old boy and an almost 1-year-old girl. As a parent, I know how important it is to feel informed when it comes to your child’s education. For this reason, I make open communication with parents and guardians a priority. Please feel comfortable contacting me, through the Outschool platform, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning experience in my classes. I am passionate about embracing my students’ eagerness to learn and to enhance their growth as individuals. I encourage and welcome all learners in my classroom and would love to teach, have fun and learn with your child!
