Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Beginner Level
I help children to explore and develop confidence in fundamental math skills and inspire a love of numbers through play.
In this magical, interactive, and fun class students will become detectives at The Kitty Kat Detective Agency International.

The Forest Dragon needs our help! The Easter Bunny Kat has found the Forest Dragon's egg and has hidden it as part of The Annual Kitty Kat Egg Hunt. Students will choose a dragon with special powers to help us along on our quest as we battle to overcome the challenges set by The Easter Bunny Kat and return the Dragon Egg before the full moon rises and it begins to hatch.
Detective Kitty Kats will have to solve puzzles presented on slides and use basic maths skills to solve this incredible magical mystery. There will be individual and group tasks set and students will share their answers with the group.

This is an inclusive class and can be adapted to suit all levels. I welcome math beginners alongside students who are confident in addition, subtraction, basic multiplication, and division.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their confidence in math skills including addition and subtraction with 3 digit numbers and skip counting in 3s, dividing by 2, and can be extended to include multiplication and division facts.

This class can be adapted to support learners who need confidence in early maths skills including counting to 100, numberbonds to 10, addition and subtraction with objects to 20.

I trained at a top drama school in London and create devised theatre and inclusive dance performances. I have been a teacher in schools and further education for the last 15 years. I specialize in teaching drama, English, maths, enterprise, and working with students with learning disabilities. In December 2020 I left my full-time job teaching maths, drama, and citizenship in a secondary school for autistic learners to work full time at The Kitty Kat Detective Agency International.

I am passionate about inclusion and mastery. I am skilled at teaching complex concepts using simple visual methods.  I use my acting training to retell magical stories with fun, maths puzzles, and games woven in with top tips for individual students on how to develop their maths and communication skills.

I set up The Kitty Kat Detective Agency International as lockdown began inspired by my son's love of mysteries, maths, and cats and I love it so much I never take my whiskers off.
