In Dance we consistently use Formative assessment as a means to check for understanding throughout the class to make sure all students are utilizing the correct arm, placement, and foot patterning for the assigned movement. This assessment can be as simple as watching the students execute the choreography and provide feedback or asking 'fill in the blank' questions in class to identify learning gaps in the teaching process. All formative assessments will be done in class and required for all participating students.Class Experience
Beginner Level
In this four week 40 minute class, students will have a chance to learn creative movement/Hip Hop choreography inspired by the Descendants movie soundtracks. Class will begin with a brief intro session and warm up that will prepare the students for the choreography the end. The warm up will also encourage different movement qualities and patterns based on the musical choices as well as the theme of each movie. After a brief water and brain break, students will learn choreography and have a chance to build their creativity and performance quality while dancing. This is a movement based class so students should be in a space that is free and clear to prevent injuries and should wear comfortable clothing. There will be time at the end of class for students to preform the choreography to me as a means of informal assessment to make sure learning goals are met.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to execute beginner creative movement/ Hip Hop choreography with the correct body energy and presence needed in order to build performance quality.
