40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this 40 minute class, students will have a chance to learn creative movement/Hip Hop choreography inspired by the Descendants movie soundtracks. Class will begin with a brief intro session and warm up that will prepare the students for the choreography the end. The warm up will also encourage different movement qualities and patterns based on the musical choices as well as the theme of each movie. After a brief water and brain break, students will learn choreography and have a chance to build their creativity and performance quality while dancing. This is a movement based class so students should be in a space that is free and clear to prevent injuries and should wear comfortable clothing. There will be time at the end of class for students to preform the choreography to me as a means of informal assessment to make sure learning goals are met.

Students will learn how to execute beginner creative movement/ Hip Hop choreography with the correct body energy and presence needed in order to build performance quality.

Parental Guidance
This is a movement based class so students should be in a space that is free and clear of clutter to prevent injuries, wear comfortable clothing, and be equipped with a water bottle. Based on the class space, usage of footwear is optional at the discretion of the family and flooring of the space. Each class includes a warm up and stretch section so doing so beforehand isn't necessary. Parental supervision is advised as injuries can occur when engaging in physical activity courses.

Njelama "DJ" Dacas Johnson originally hails from Brooklyn, New York but now resides in New Jersey after earning her Ed.M in K-12 Dance Education and her BFA in Dance Performance from Rutgers University. During that time, she was privileged enough to perform works by Keith Thompson, David Parker (The Bang Group), Kendra Portier, Marina Collard and Summation Dance.
DJ was a 2019 ABT Project Plié scholarship recipient and completed the Nation Training Curriculum for levels Pre-Primary-3. She previously directed the Rutgers Summer Dance Camp & Conservatory and studied abroad at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, United Kingdom which aided in her growth teaching students dance. During her time as a public school dance educator she wrote K-12 curriculums meant to enrich and prepare students for the changing landscape of the art world. Her passion and love for dance shines through in her teaching practices where she highlights the importance of not only movement but the joy behind it.
When she’s not cultivating the minds of young dancers, DJ tries to spend as much time as possible traveling, hiking, painting and crafting. "
