US Grade Kindergarten
This is a one time live reading group that focuses on kindergarten/first grade level phonics skills and decodable texts. I will be using engaging slides and digital content to present information to students. What is a decodable text? Decodable texts have a different instructional purpose than leveled texts. Decodable texts contain very little picture support because decodable texts require students to apply phonics skills they have been explicitly taught. This includes word recognition, phonemic awareness, and other phonics skills. The science of reading approach states that word recognition and alphabetic code (decoding) are necessary components for students’ to become proficient readers. Decodable texts are an important type of texts that we have to put in front of our students to ensure they are becoming proficient readers! This class was designed for kindergarten/first graders, but can be used for struggling readers in older grades. Join me for a decodable reading group where students will practice letter sounds, segmenting and blending CVC words, reading decodable sentences, identifying high frequency words, reading the decodable text, "Tom and Tad" and writing a sentence about the text. The text, "Tom and Tad" is a short decodable reader about two kids and their pets. Your child will leave our group feeling confident and proud of themself! Pre req: Students should be able to accurately identify (most, if not all) the following letter sounds: c, o, a, d, g, m, l, h, t Students do not need any materials for this course. I will share a PDF copy of the book, "Tom and Tad" for you to print, should you choose.
