I will send home optional assignments for your child to complete that will demonstrate their understanding of the Six Syllable Types. Parents can send a picture of their child's work for me to check and give feedback.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
This five week class will review the Six Syllable types. Each week two videos will be available and include short assignments to reinforce learning. I will be available the entire month to answer any questions your child might have and to provide feedback and encouragement. I will respond to any messages you or your child sends me as quickly as possible, usually the same day. This FLEX (video lessons you can watch on your own schedule) class will focus on the Six Syllable Types: Vowel-consonant-e, Vowel-R, Consonant-LE, Vowel Pair Syllables, Closed Syllables, and Open Syllables. Research shows that understanding these different syllable types helps students become more fluent readers. This class will focus on dyslexia intervention strategies that are beneficial for any reader. Each week will focus on one of the Six Syllable Types and provide ample opportunities for practice by solving riddles, using blending boards, and playing games to reinforce both reading and spelling. This class will begin with phonological awareness activities that have been proven to be crucial for reading development. My dyslexia specialist training, which is Orton-Gillingham based, is not only beneficial for dyslexic students but for any beginning reader. My main goal is for each student to leave feeling more confident in their reading! I've witnessed time and time again that the more confident a child becomes, the faster reading growth occurs. (Cookie the Pug dog will also make an appearance!). Two approximately 15 minute lessons will be available each week of the five week course focusing on a different syllable type. Go through each lesson in one sitting or do a little bit at a time, it's up to you and what is best for your child. I also give supplemental resources on the targeted phonics skill to complete throughout the week if you so desire. I will be available via email to answer any questions that you may have as a parent. I'm thrilled to be providing this resource for parents! Striving to add an element of entertainment to reading tutoring, my pug dog Cookie will be a regular visitor during our sessions. Many of my students' parents tell me that their child can't wait to log on to see what costume Cookie will be dressed in that day! (The best part is the stoic look on his face regardless of the outfit! Haha)
