This three-day course will further develop the argumentation skills that students already possess through active coaching and competitive Public Forum Debate rounds. Day 1: Researching and evaluating evidence. Effective note-taking to track contentions. Cross examination and rebuttal exercises. Students will be paired into teams for Day 2 and given a debate resolution to research. Day 2: Partner prep. Full 2v2 Public Forum Debate round. Post-round coaching with a focus on evaluating...
By the end of the course, students will be able to advocate for the relative strength of their evidence and impacts while also tracking contentions through the entire debate round.
After the first and second classes, students will be assigned teams and given a debate topic to research and prepare.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Debaters will be given individualized feedback after each class.
3 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
